The annual mid-September announcement of Apple’s new technology seems to have ingrained itself into becoming a modern American tradition. And this year, that trend didn’t seem to change.
All the buzz, tweets and posts on the internet focused predominantly on the release of the new iPhone, as American consumers looked to see the next evolution in their favorite handheld device. And this year, Apple introduced the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Max.
Users would notice that the screen of the new iPhone is strikingly similar to its predecessor, with the controversial black tab on top staying put. However, one flip onto the camera side would reveal this year’s most notable upgrade; the addition of an extra camera lens on the back of the iPhone 11 Pro.
However, in true internet fashion, the memes and jokes online on the groundbreaking cinematic-like new camera were hard to ignore. One photoshopped picture compared the three lenses to that of a stovetop, and another to that of the holes on a bowling ball.
Besides being on the butt end of internet humor, the third camera serves to extend the camera range of the iPhone, a feature only found of the Pro model, not the standard iPhone 11. Another difference between the new smartphones is that the iPhone Pro provides a long 12 hours of charge, while the iPhone 11 battery life lasts for a shorter 10 hours. The new iPhone models continue to tout waterproof capabilities, with the Pro being able to last 30 minutes in four meters of water while the standard 11 being able to withstand water logging for a shorter period of time.
Apple has additionally added a new colorway for the iPhone Pro, a metallic olive shade dubbed “midnight green.” On the other hand, the standard iPhone 11 has a more vivid variety of colors to choose from, as buyers can select from the standard white and black colorways, as well as a bright purple yellow, turquoise or red.
What didn’t change from last year’s iPhone is the expensive price tag.The baseline iPhone 11 Pro with 64 GB of storage costs $999, and phones with more storage can cost
upwards of $1149 for 256 GB, and $1349 for a whopping 512 GB of data storage. However, Apple’s exchange program, in which you exchange your new iPhone, allows for this price tag to be decreased. This, of course, is assuming your iPhone is in good enough condition. Any cracks or scratches will change the price decrease.
One thing is for sure, the reviews have been overall positive for Apple’s coveted handheld device. While 5G capabilities were left out of this year’s model, it seems that the iPhone 11 Pro is a big hit amongst consumers, no matter what the memes say.
