Disneyland is a very popular place to visit. It’s safe, and the family friendly vibe is very alluring, but in order to keep itself family friendly and safe, Disney has made a lot of rules. In this article I will be going over some rules that Disney has placed that you might not have known about.
- Selfie sticks
Selfie sticks were banned from the Disney theme park after an incident in 2015 when a passenger on a ride brought it out. This made the ride stop, leaving the other passengers stuck on the ride for nearly an hour.
- Getting into fights with cast members
Whether it’s a character or just some cast member working at a store, fighting with any kind of cast member is prohibited. This rule all started when an intoxicated man punched Tigger in the face, which ended up with him getting kicked out of the park. Surprisingly, this happens more often than you may think.
- Cutting balloon string
This rule was made when Youtubers started coming into the parks and wanted to pull some pranks on some kids. It’s a very poor thing to do and Disney looks down upon it. If you cut someone’s balloon string, you will be kicked out of the park.
- Swimming in the castle moat
Surprisingly, people jumping into the moat happen quite frequently. It gets very hot in both Anaheim and Orlando, so people want to find a way to cool off. Disney put in this rule to keep people safe.
- Feeding the animals
Many people have come into Disney’s Animal Kingdom thinking it’s a petting zoo; it’s not. This rule was put in to keep the animals safe because they don’t know what type of food you are feeding them, and you don’t know if what you are feeding them is good. This rule isn’t just for Animal Kingdom. If you feed animals like ducks and cats that are just walking around, you still have the chance to get kicked out.
- Bringing balloons into animal kingdom
Here’s another rule that was placed in order to keep the animals safe. The Disney cast members don’t want you to accidentally let go of the balloon (or something similar) for the safety of the animals.
- Scattering ashes
Many people who love Disney will want their ashes to be placed at their favorite spot. This is not only against the rules at Disney, it’s against the law.
- Wearing a wedding dress
Unless it’s your actual wedding and you are working alongside the cast members, you are allowed to wear a wedding dress. Due to Disney’s strong cosplaying rules they banned the ability to wear a wedding dress unless it’s your actual wedding and you are working with the professionals.
- Flying drones
This rule is another one for safety. Disney doesn’t want drones to hit people, nor do they want it to end up in a ride. Although people claim they are in total control of the drones, Disney just doesn’t want to risk it.
- Showing too much skin
Disney has a very strict dress code. Whether it be costumes or showing too much skin, Disney wants to keep their parks very family friendly. Wearing something like a bikini top, a very revealing tank top, or even a sports bra is against the rules.
I asked two Disney fans what they thought about these rules, and a student here at SMHS responded with, “I agree with all of these rules. The rules make sense, and Disney has good reasons for them. Though I am a little bummed out about the costume rules, then again I guess it makes sense because they don’t want tourists paying some random person to take photos with.” I then asked another Disney fan to shock she responded with, “I agree with all of the rules, because I believe that there’s magic in Disney that requires rules to be in place and I’ll say I’m particularly found of the no selfie stick rule as I’ve seen usage of selfie stick illegally during firework shows and parades and seen how that ruins the experience for others.”
