Binge Watching Vs. Weekly Episodes

To binge or not to binge? As from being seniors at SMHS to younglings who are just entering kindergarten, we’ve always had two options to choose from. The traditional periodically released TV shows, like sitcom episodes that were released every week since decades ago, or the Netflix’ new-but-not-so-new method of releasing a whole show, all at once. Which one’s better?

In 2013, Netflix had just released its first original TV Show, House of Cards, but instead of the conventional method like all similar shows, we could watch the entire season in one night! After House of Cards, practically all other Netflix Originals’ Shows followed a similar pattern. Stranger Things, Orange Is The New Black, and virtually every other TV Show Netflix has ever released.

However, Netflix’ reign of terror came to an end when in 2019, the most recent streaming service since Disney+ had announced a Star Wars TV show and we had no idea it also opted for a pattern of weekly releases for its shows. The first two episodes oddly came out on the same day, but each one after was periodically released. Despite anime and traditional TV shows, fans who were still used to watching TV that way, it was as if the weekly released TV show episodes were here to stay once more.

Unfortunately for Netflix, Disney+ has gained the ultimate popularity when WandaVision’s double episodes came out in January, following a stream of success and praise. Currently, WandaVision has been named the most popular TV show in the world and its episodes’ patterns might be a huge factor.

As opposed to a binge-watching TV show, where anxiety and excitement take control and a great majority of subscribers decide to watch the entire season on one night, like The Mandalorian or WandaVision. The anxiety can be even greater and that influences people to instantly get even their electronic refrigerators to log on Disney+ and finally watch the new episode, as those kinds of shows have also become a family tradition to many people.

The takeaway? As long as it doesn’t affect your health conditions, both are fine. Unfortunately releasing exceptional TV shows during the pandemic has been a thing, so it’s quite difficult to not spend hours watching them, which is again, understandable. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be released and of course, we’re expecting the same Disney magic in it. Go watch!
