Spoiler alert! Netflix has been dragging on stories that were supposedly well made, and turning them into boring and far too long shows. Like where do you ever see these shows being publicized anymore? They’re just there and even though the first seasons of some were so good, it should’ve ended many seasons ago. Here is a list of all the Netflix shows that I believe have been going on for too long: Pretty Little Liars, 13 Reasons Why, the Vampire Diaries, and Grey’s Anatomy. Before I continue, I would like to say that this is my opinion and I love some of these except I really really just needed it to end sooner.
First of all, I would like to talk about Grey’s Anatomy. Everyone knows this show, it’s super popular. But only the first couple of seasons. When I first found out that a 13th season was about to come out, I was super surprised because I had not watched past season 6. Lexie and Mark had died of a plane crash, and I was super emotional and I still cry every time I see an edit. Speaking of edits, when is the last time you have seen an edit on season 13. Never. Anyway, the entirety of season 6 was just focusing on their love story, and only theirs. When both of them passed away, there was just nothing left. No other story had been introduced while it was about them, and the creators tried to start something new but it did not work. Also, I just researched this and saw that the main character has covid and has been in a hospital bed for the past almost 4 episodes.
Next, Pretty Little Liars. Do not get me wrong, I watched the first season like my life depended on it. I binged the whole thing in less than 2 days, I was obsessed. Except as I kept going, I found it physically hard to keep watching. The only good A was Mona, and the threats from A were getting less and less creative and more repetitive. “Having a different A over and over again was boring,” says Junior Alina Shah. She “liked the beginning of the show, but throughout the show, it got more boring. A lot more boring.” The relationships were for sure being dragged on, and I did not appreciate seeing the same four love interests over and over again, not that I don’t want them to be happy. The relationships were so vanilla and had no plot twist, that I had to stop.
13 Reasons Why. Personally, I haven’t watched this, but only because it’s a book and there’s no way the series can be better than the book. Also, I saw the preview, and there being more than one season is off-putting, especially since there is certainly no need for that.
The last, and in my opinion, one of the longest series that should have ended way before, is The Vampire Diaries. In the last season, which Junior Joshua Swire said that he “didn’t even finish watching,” after Elena, the main character, had been in a coma for a long time, she awoke and found Damon waiting for her, outside. Also, after watching Elena die for the millionth time, Joshua exclaimed that “the whole trope of Elena dying over and over again was getting boring.” Because the two actors had broken up in real life, their on screen chemistry was ruined. They, clearly, were not in love with each other anymore, and there was no emotion in a long-awaited kiss.
Hopefully, when Netflix produces some new exciting series, they will choose to make it short and simple, and not drag them on for too long.
