Senior Spotlight: Jazzy Lacsamana

As shoes have become more influential and vital to developing a complete and fashionable outfit, Jazzaleya Lacsamana stands out. Her collection starts at NB 550s and ends at the original off-white Chicagos. Since she was a baby, Jazzaleya has had a sense of fashion, and she’s always remembered collecting shoes, her obsession stemming from buying the Jordan Tie Dyes, which quickly became a growing collection worth over five figures in retail. Miriel Chavez, one of Jazzy’s best friends, says, “[I can’t pick a favorite], sis has the whole foot locker at her house” Some of Jazzys favorites include the Wave runners, pink Uggs, Cherry Jordan 11s, and the Sean Wotherspoons.

But the true impact she’s left on SMHS has been her positive influence on her friends, peers, and teachers. Within the Yearbook class, Jazzy is responsible for taking photos and crediting names. She plays a significant role in creating the school’s annual yearbook. Mrs. Marquez, Jazzys former long-time teacher, describes her in Spanish; “In class, Jazzy was always helpful towards her peers and easily socialized with anyone. She always has a huge, infectious smile on her face and has a kind personality that shines through.” Wherever Lacasamana goes, she has a contagious good attitude; good vibes seem to follow her. Miriel, a friend, says, “[Jazzy’s] intelligent, confident, humble, and boujee.”  She describes her style as “comfortable streetwear.” Another one of Jazzaleyas friends, Jayden Nguyen remarks that “as a fellow Asian it feels nice to see we have queens like jazzy within our community”

Since I have no style, I asked the ‘drip queen’ to create an outfit for me, “Black cargos are always a safe pick, an essentials crewneck sweatshirt with some Yeezy Boost 350s” That sounds pretty good if I do say so myself. Jazzy was also one of our Journalism staff writers last year, helping to release the 2022 edition of the newspaper. She also has experience working with underclassmen, Mrs. Cervantes’s TA in the office; her advice for underclassmen is to “Find a good balance between school and life; never get too caught up in your grades and do things that make you happy.”

Besides that, Jazzy is an ardent RNB listener; among various artists, she loves Drake and SZA the most; she likes their lyrical ‘thesis.’ She can’t choose a favorite song, but SZA’s “CTRL,” Drakes’s “Take Care,” and Roddy Rich’s “PEMFBA” are some of her top albums. Jazzaleya loves a good beat and lyrics that resonate with her mood.

In the future, Jazzy wants to major in cosmetology, eventually becoming an esthetician, citing her mom as her inspiration because she’s so youthful for her age.
