Senior Spotlight: Keren Kreindler

They say that high school is a time of self-discovery, expression, and growth. Most of us are lucky to have one outlet for self-expression, but Keren stands as a beacon of creativity. Throughout all of high school, Keren Kreindler has been an outspoken, avid learner, and has been tremendously committed to her music.

In class, Keren is incredibly expressive and outspoken. She explains “How else can change happen if people do not voice their beliefs? It doesn’t matter what background you come from or what your beliefs are, everyone has the right to voice their opinions and I do not believe in silencing any kind of perspective, especially if it doesn’t align with the majority’s”. And that “In the classroom, being vocal helps me find more insight regarding what I’m learning about or doing and the goal is to give it more meaning”.

For Keren, self-expression goes well beyond the classroom. Going from Jazz Band to recording studios she has immersed herself in a realm of creativity. Keren played trumpet in the Jazz Band here at SMHS her freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and in her senior year she joined the school’s choir. She explains that “Music is a language I enjoy speaking and I enjoy using it to connect and bond with others”. And that when Keren joined choir this year “I got to explore a new form of music performance but also got to display my songwriting and guitar passions and integrate what I’ve learned about music throughout my life”. She continues and sincerely thanks Mr. Tribuzi for giving her many solo opportunities and teaching her throughout her music journey. Outside of school, Keren plays piano, plays guitar, writes songs, and even records her own music. She believes it’s a terrific outlet for creative expression and plans to continue on her music journey well past high school.

One of Keren’s close friends, Ellen, describes her saying “She really cares about the things she’s passionate about and for music she really puts a lot of effort into it”. And explains “I think her passion really comes through listening to her music and it’s really good music which I think is incredible”. Keren’s plans for the future now are to go to University of California, Santa Barbara, where she will be majoring in either psychological & brain sciences or cognitive science. She currently releases music on her Instagram and is working to release music on Spotify! Her bright beacon of creativity and self-expression will be missed tremendously in our SMHS community after she graduates this year.
